Founded in 1869 and entering the VFL competition in 1925, North Melbourne’s distinct pride in its own heritage is epitomised by the ‘shinboner spirit’, an intangible camaraderie that exists amongst Kangaroos fans and players which reflects the club’s battling character. In the early 1970’s, under the watch of club president Allen Aylett, North had begun to assemble a strong core of star players: Keith Greig, Doug Wade, Wayne Schimmelbusch, John Rantall, Barry Davis, Malcolm Blight and Barry Cable. But the arrival of Ron Barrasi in 1973 transformed North into a premiership force, appearing in 5 straight grand finals and winning two premierships in 1975 and 1977. In the mid-1990’s, a new crop of Kangaroos would become the benchmark of the competition: led by the inimitable Wayne Carey, Denis Pagan’s side–which also included stars Corey McKernan, Glenn Archer, Shannon Grant, Mick Martyn and Brent Harvey–would bring home two more flags to Arden Street.
Running Time: 600 minutes approx.
