Description
With a record sixteen premierships to its name, the Essendon football club has always been synonymous with success, and has seen some of the greatest players in the game don its famous black and red sash guernsey. After winning their twelfth senior flag in 1965, the Bombers embarked on a rare premiership drought for almost three decades. The arrival of Kevin Sheedy in 1981 ushered in a new era at Windy Hill, with the coach’s astute tactical nous and his faith in youth yielding two premierships in 1984 and 1985 for the so-called ‘Baby Bombers’. In the early 1990s, a new generation of ‘Baby Bombers’ was born on Sheedy’s watch, including future club legends James Hird, Dustin Fletcher and Gavin Wanganeen. It was this young crop of players who would be instrumental in their 1993 premiership success, and also lay the foundation for another flag seven years later in 2000, after one of the most dominant seasons in football history. Sit back and enjoy all the memories of five of Essendon’s historic premierships, with full replays of the 1965, 1984, 1985, 1993 and 2000 Grand Finals.
